Simple Home Staging Tips

Published on November 6, 2015

Are you planning to put your home on the market? Here are a few simple home staging tips to boost appeal and get those offers coming in!

1. Curb Appeal: Often potential buyers will drive by your home before making an appointment to see the inside, making it especially important to keep the exterior of your home and yard tidy and looking nice!
Use the following tips to spruce up your curb appeal:

  • Mow the lawn and add fresh sod if needed.
  • Add flowering plants and greenery. Consider adding potted plants to your porch or yard that you can take with you to your new home!
  • Wash front windows and doors.
  • Power-wash the exterior of your home and walkways.

2. Consider Painting Rooms a Neutral Color: If you’re up to the job, consider painting bold colored rooms a neutral color. This makes it more appealing to a wider range of potential buyers, no matter their preference.

3. Clean, Clean, Clean: Take special care in cleaning every nook and cranny, making your home sparkle. Pay particularly close attention to the kitchen, bathrooms, and floors. Don’t forget wiping the dirt, pet hair, and grime off of the molding, trim, and doors.

4. Get Rid of the Clutter: Pack away any items that are not necessary to your everyday life. Clean and clear surfaces, remove any extra appliances from the countertops, organize closets, and open up any additional space. Keep in mind that even if the clutter appears to be hidden in a closet or storage room, a potential buyer will still open all doors! This can cause the illusion of less storage areas so keep those closets clean as well.

5. Rearrange Your Furniture: Create a social layout in the living and family room that makes it easy for buyers to envision spending time with family or friends. Add fresh pillows or slipcovers to dated couches or chairs to pep up your look!

6. Final Touches: Add fresh cut flowers in vases to your table tops, make sure that all light bulbs are functioning and your rooms are well-lit, be aware of pet odors (try Apple Pie scented plugins for a warm Fall feel), put toys away neatly, and remove personal photos so buyers can think of your home as their own.
